Naturally, I made my picks based on the schools I had actually heard of, the states I have lived in, or how "cute" the school name and/or mascot is. Oddly enough, I am not doing too well. I've been in last place... that is until today!

Thank you Ryanne Witt for being just as bad at this as I am! I'm sure your reason for entering this race was similar to mine... I just wanted to come up with a fun name for my bracket! And I do have to say, "March Madness is my Boyfriend" is almost as good as "Baracket Obama!"

When I was a little girl, I put my plastic diamond ring that I had won out of a toy vending machine in the offering basket. At the time my thought process was, "I love this ring, but Jesus asks me to give up my posessions, so I will give it to Him." That afternoon, my dad (who counts the offering after service) came home and gave me the ring. He explained that someone put it in the offering, but the church wasn't able to use it so they said I could have it. I was so excited that Jesus gave me my ring back! Still to this day I don't think my dad knows that it was my ring to start with. In fact, now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever told anyone this story.

Anyway, this story came to mind the other day when I went to count our offering for Wildside and found these fun items...

I absolutely love that our students not only understand but also practice the importance of offering. But I also love how amusing jr highers can be!

Today, Phil and I did some shopping at Wal-Mart. As we were pulling in to the check out lane, the cashier lady, Angelica (which Phil's sure is not her real name), took a picture with a disposable camera of us as well as a man looking at DVDs. It was awfully strange! So I, in typical Bethany fashion, waited a few moments, then asked, "What's the camera for?" Apparently this lady gets assaulted enough that she keeps a camera with her, takes pictures of any suspicious characters, and gives them to the police.

To make myself feel better, I am just going to assume that the man looking at the DVDs was the suspicious character today.

Tonight my blow dryer of 5 years bit the dust. I think it had something to do with traveling to the other side of the country. Although it could have been the fact that I always use it on high heat, full blast, for long periods of time. Or maybe it just hated me. Any which way, I am very much going to miss it!

Apparently, I have decided to become an artist this week. Not sure if it is really my niche, but it was definitely fun! Here are my two favorite pieces...

I created this one on my computer while flying to Vegas. No parallel to the fact that there are birds flying and I was flying. I'm not that deep. Just a coincidence.

I painted this on a 36" x 36" canvas this week. I saw a similar painting in a shop and loved it, but it cost $500. And I thought, "Hey, I could paint that for way less." Try $450 less! Eat it Pier 1!

We just got back from a Wildside event called On Location in which we meet up with our students at their school. Today we went to Las Flores which is located in a pretty nice neighborhood. As we were waiting for school to get out, the ice cream man showed up! We were all excited, but not as excited as the two kids who ran past us yelling, "it's really an ice cream truck!" Their mother then explained that they had never seen an ice cream truck before. Oh, the wonders of South Orange County!

(Quick side note: This is not the actual ice cream truck that we visited. So no, we did not get to order ice cream from this colorful character.)

So, Matt, Stacey, Phil and I headed over to the ice cream truck to get a delicious treat. I ordered a Reese Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream Bar. As I took my first bite, Matt mentioned his theory that the guy on the truck did not return any of his recalled peanut butter products. Therefore I was most likely going to get sick. If you know me at all then you know that this statement was enough to make me feel sick. So now, back at my desk, I sit here contemplating running to the bathroom to throw up.

Tonight, we watched Flight of the Conchords. Since Phil already knows how much trouble I have understanding him, he suggested that I turn on the closed caption...it totally worked! Made the show that much funnier!

But I also enjoyed that Phil laughed at different parts of the show. Those Brits sure do have such a different sense of humor!

This weekend, I witnessed what might possibly go down in history as one of the best Wildside moments ever! Here's the setup. We played a game called "Rick Cutout is My Friend" in which a table of our students were able to have the Rick Warren cutout join them for the entire service.

At the 630pm service, a group of fun, but quite rowdy boys won the Rick Cutout. Let's just say they are really good at being jr. high boys. The 630 service is already prone to having a lot more energy. One of my favorite things about it is watching the students rush the stage during worship. Well, this group of boys brought Rick Cutout with them. And not only did Rick Cutout dance around in the crowd... Rick Cutout also went crowd surfing!

Zachary is sick right now. I just got home from taking him to the doctor and it turns out he has some virus that is going around. Not surprised, seeing that in the last 3 days he was on a plane for 5 hours, stayed up late every night, and worked hard to get this weekend's service ready.

With the weather being too cold to go to the beach, we decided to replace Beach Monday with an Ice Skating Day! It was SO much fun!!!

Last night Zack took me to an HSM Christmas party thrown by one of my favorite volunteers, Chip. We drove up to LA and had dinner on the rooftop of his building...it was AMAZING! It felt like we walked onto a movie set!

After dinner, we headed to Hollywood and went to the Arclight Cinerama Dome Movie Theater and saw The Day the Earth Stood Still. Such a fun whirlwind of an evening!

I would never in a million years claim to be a movie critic. I don't think one can when some of their top pics include Dude Where's my Car, Bring it On, or any Hallmark movie. Having made this claim...

Last night we saw The Day the Earth Stood Still. My favorite part of the movie was when I closed my eyes and took a 5 minute nap. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't anything to write home about. In fact, I kept thinking, "I already saw this movie back in 1996 when it was called Independence Day." But I will say this for the film... great casting! Each actor seemed to play their perfect role.

Keanu Reeves: A stiff, emotionally void character who speaks in a slow whisper.

Jennifer Connelly: A slightly depressed single woman who is smarter than she looks but not pushy enough to get her way on her own.

Jaden Smith: A punky little kid who has trouble obeying but you can't help but want to love on.

Robert Knepper: An Army Officer from the south who doesn't take his own authority too seriously.

You Know This - The Question Man Knows All The Answers

This weekend in Wildside we decided to shake things up a bit. Instead of Kurt teaching a typical lesson, we let the students write out questions for Kurt to answer. Everything was in real time, allowing for the kids to think of things as we were going. Talk about amazing! Not only did these students have some great difficult questions, but Kurt did such a good job at thoroughly and honestly answering them. At the end of each service, Kurt asked the students if they want to do the same format next week or if we should just start another series. 99.5% of the students raised their hand for the questions - which just goes to show you how hungry this generation of kids is for some truth.

Despite my mother telling me at the young age of 7 that I am not allowed to ride a motorcycle, I got extremely excited at the idea that Brian would let Katie and I take his bike for a spin! For about 15 minutes, Katie and I unsuccessfully attempted to drive the bike. Once we realized that we couldn't even get the kick stand up, we decided to just enjoy the simple victory of sitting on the bike. Although, it was very exciting when Brian showed us how to rev the engine!

On Wii Bowling, there's this super fun game I like to refer to as "Lots-O-Pins." (Not sure what it's really called, but if you play Wii bowling, you probably know what I'm talking about.) For some reason, I tend to think I can do anything I try. And not only do I think I can do it, but I also think I should be the best at it. For instance, whenever I go to classes at the gym - whether its a hip-hop class, step class, weights, yoga, whatever - I always push myself to the breaking point by unsuccessfully trying to be the best in the class. Seriously. This is why I have fainted twice now at 24 hour fitness.

Well, today was no exception. I got the wild idea that I should know how to do the CWalk. It's been years since this move came out and about, and I'm pretty sure no one does it anymore, but I still felt the need to master the move. So I went onto YouTube and found this beauty...

Finishing the season finale of Heroes season 2, I went online to start watching season 3. I had seen it on Hulu a few weeks ago, so I wasn't worried about it. This weekend in Wildside was the finale of Choctober! And, as always, we ended the month with the giant chocolate slip-n-slide we fondly refer to as the Mud Slide. This year, with the Refinery, we gave the Mud Slide a bit of a face lift. Not only did the students get to go down the chocolaty slide, but we also added a ramp! Check it out...

I really hate politics. Partially because I feel like people get way too involved to a point where they are willing end relationships over their differences. But mostly, I hate feeling stupid, confused, and left out of conversations, and politics is one area that I just don't understand. I have recently formed a strange new habit. Whenever I feel the need to sleep, I pour myself a bowl of Kix cereal, sit in my bed, and watch an old episode of Grey's Anatomy. I was suspicious last night when I turned on Grey's and felt the need to pour myself a bowl. (Shortly followed by Katie coming home and catching me in this odd situation.) But just now, I went to lay down and watch another episode, and low and behold, had to get up to eat some Kix. I don't know what I will do when the cereal runs out!

Gotta go now... I'm missing important McDreamy scenes and my Kix are getting soggy...

I was tagged by Jess, whom I love dearly without even knowing that well!

1. I have 2 calics on the back of my head. My mom says I was born with horns and they cut them off in the delivery room. The hair that grows out of my calics wants to be curly, while the rest of my hair is pin straight.

2. The biggest desire of my heart is to be a really, really, really good mom. This is only strange because of my major fear of giving birth.

3. For the first 3 years that I lived in Texas, I fought saying words like "y'all" or "fixin'." I may not have said them out loud, but they were in my thoughts and eventually even in my dreams. I gave up during my 4th year of college and started saying y'all. Now, 5 years later, I still use that word in my everyday conversations. And even better, my students are saying it too!

4. As girly as I am, I have an inability to cry. I hate hate hate hate hate crying. But even when I feel the need, I cannot cry infront of others. Not even when Izzy killed Denny in Grey's Anatomy. I couldn't cry, that is, until recently. I have been consistently crying for the last 2 months.

5. My fear of weiner dogs caused me to jump into a bush the other day.

6. Not only do I still have Baylor University pride and Poly High School pride, but I still have California Baptist University pride, Gage Middle School pride, Castle View Elementary School pride, and First Baptist Preschool pride. Apparently I am just proud of my roots! (Sorry RCC, that one semester of summer school there didn't make the cut!)

7. During the summer, my feet are constantly dirty. During the winter, my feet are constantly stinky.

For our Student Ministries fun day, we went bowling at Lucky Strike. They were having a special - if the head pin was red and you bowled a strike, you won a free 2 hour block of bowling for you and 15 friends. With 21 of us bowling, it was bound to happen, but I think they doubted our mad bowling skills that day...

That's right. We won 64 people worth of free bowling!

When I walked into my parent's house this morning, I heard a familiar voice. It was a man's voice, but it wasn't my dad. Knowing that Cali the dog and I were the only ones home, I started to wander around the house to solve the mystery. The voice was coming from the office. I walked into the room to find the office empty, but the familiar voice was still talking. I came over to the computer to check it out. It was the voice of my boss, Rick Warren. When my mom left for work this morning, she left her iTunes running and it had made its way down to Purpose Driven Life.

When I was in 7th grade, instead of taking a normal english class, I was the Literary Magazine (no, this nerdy fact is not the confession part of this blog post). Every week we had to memorize and recite a poem to the entire class. Rather than taking the time to memorize a poem, I decided to recite the lyrics to random songs. Between girl scouts, children's church, and being in several musicals as a child, I had quite the repertoire. So I was able to fool my teacher for an entire year.

So I popped the pink thing in my mouth... disgusting! It tasted like mold and I couldn't bite through it. So I spit it out and fed it to the dog. As she chewed on it, she stared at me as if to say, "why would you do this to me?!" But Cali is stronger than I am. With much drooling, she powered through and finished the candy. I'm gonna go find her a real treat to get the nasty taste out of her mouth.
