You Know This - Pickle Ornament

So, this Christmas Dominik, the German intern, is coming home with me to Riverside. My family members (who are all minorly ridiculous) are so excited to share Christmas with him that they went searching for some German traditions to help Dom feel at home. So my sister Krista called me up and said she was so excited because she found a pickle ornament...excuse me?! Apparently this is a German tradition. Here's the legend...

"A pickle used as an ornament on the Christmas tree seems odd at first, but this is an old German tradition. When decorating the Christmas tree, it was a practice to hang the pickle ornament last, hidden among the twigs. The first child on Christmas Eve to find the Christmas pickle ornament would receive an extra gift."
Crazy? Perhaps. But I'm sure Dom will appreciate it! Thank you family for being so great!

You Know This - Good People

With all of the hate in this world, it is always great to be reminded that people are still genuinely good-hearted. Today I got to experience such reminder.

Interns at Saddleback work for free. One of the interns here just received an anonymous envelope with a visa gift card inside. No reason, no rhyme, no explanation. Just a kind person thinking of others. Thank you mystery giver for reminding us that there are still so many good people out there!

You Know This - Go-Karting

For our Student Ministries Christmas Party, the whole team went out to Moran Raceway in Beaumont. And, MAN ALIVE it was so much fun!!!

Allison Murray and I both came in 1st. She won on our first round and I won on our second round. Who knew we were such good racers?!

Allison Hibbard gave us a pretty good run too. But she just couldn't seem to beat me!

Here's me pulling into first!

All in all, a great day had by all! Oh, minus Jeff Baker who got run over by a go-kart and took 10 stitches to the knee!

You Know This - Ghost Riding

Every so often I think I am ghetto and decide to pull out some sort of phrase, rap or dance move that would convince those around me that I am from "da hood". One of my favorites is Ghost Riding!

Now, I know not everyone is well versed in their pop-culture lingo, so here is a definition of ghost riding...

Ghost-riding, frequently used in the context of "ghost-riding the whip" (a "whip" being a vehicle) or simply ghostin', is when a person puts the car in neutral or allows it to idle and then the driver (and passengers) of a vehicle exit while it is still rolling and dance beside it or on the hood or roof. [[thank you wikapedia.com for the random information]]

But, really, nothing could explain it better than this video...

You Know This - Worst Movie Ever

I have two words for you about the movie The Mist...

SKIP IT!

I mean, unless you want to waste 2 hours of your life laughing at terrible acting and effects, then go for it! There were a few priceless lines thrown in there, but not enough to make the movie worth while. And walking out you aren't sure if you should feel scared for your life, sad about the ending, or angry that you just wasted $10 and 2 hours.

But at least I had a great time with my small group again!

You Know This - Scary Santa

So, we went to Tutto Frescos for dinner the other night...delicious! But check out what happens when you go into their bathroom...

So scary! It's light activated, so as soon as you turn on the light Santa starts singing you a little tune! Even more disturbing when you are actually peeing!!!

You Know This - Baptism

So, I am obviously a big fan of small groups (being that I am the junior high small groups coordinator), but this weekend I got to be a part of a great example of why small groups are so important. This past Wednesday at our Bible study two of our guys decided to get baptized this weekend!

Pastor Rick ended up doing the baptisms, which was a great surprise! So, when the guys walked into the water, Allison, Alyssa and I just followed them in - no baptism shirt or board shorts or anything...just fully clothed. It was such a great bonding moment, I can't even explain it. I was so proud of them, you would have thought it was my own baptism!

Congratulations Bwong and Josh! I love you guys! You really are the best small group ever!!!
