You Know This - Free *German* Hugs

Who wouldn't want to hug the German???

You Know This - Cowboys Hugging

On Thursday night I drove out to The Roadhouse Grill in Temecula to meet up with my family for my oldest sister's (Sarah) birthday. Like most family events, I ended up sitting next to the children...mostly by choice.

So my 5-year-old nephew Cameron looked out the window and saw a bunch of coyboys standing outside. (At this point in the story I would like to reiterate that we were in Temecula. Cowboys run rampant out there.)

Sure enough, there were about 15 guys in cowboy hats, wranglers, boots and big-old belt buckles. They were huddled in a group just smoking and hugging each other. I'm pretty sure that they had just exited the bar area for a quick smoke break.

Anyway, Sarah and Bill and I start making all sorts of comments - talking about Rodeos, Texas, my ex-boyfriend from Texas, and of course, Brokeback Mountain. In the middle of our conversation we hear in a raspy voice little Cameron sing, Cowboys Hugging.

Man, I wish everyone could hear his song! It was perfect! In fact, the producers of Brokeback should have put it in their movie. (I would have said if they make a sequel they should use the song, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen...RIP Heath)

You Know This - PD Bookshelf

Check out what I found when I was moving...

Man alive, I have a bookshelf full of purpose!

You Know This - Little Jonas Brother

My C-Group girls absolutely LOVE the Jonas Brothers!

I have to admit, I kinda sorta maybe like their music just a little bit. I mean, they're no O-Town, but I could rock it every so often.

Anyway, today I went on to Wikapedia to see how old they are and I discovered a beautiful little unknown fact about these brothers. There is a younger Jonas brother who is not in the band, who is fondly refered to as the 'Bonus Jonas'! Best nickname ever!!!

So, this weekend I decided to go up to the Ugg outlet in Ventura and buy a new pair of boots. (My old ones were SUPER stinky). Sister Krista and I made a day trip out of it and spent the day in Santa Barbara. Here are a few pictures that captured our trip...

You Know This - US Geography

Having Allison Hibbard around really helps the time go by when you are in a boring situation. At a long boring meeting one day, Allison challanged a few of us to a contest to see who could draw the most accurate map of the United States. US Geography was never really my strongpoint, so I ended up losing the challange. Apparenly I don't know my mid-west very well, but honestly, who does?!

So, I took this challange to try and redeem myself (as well as Mr. Noller, my Jr. High History teacher).

2 minutes and 50 seconds! Beat that!!!
***Thank you Josh Treece for the online quiz...sorry I beat you!***

You Know This - Crossing the (fe)Line

Little known Bethany fact... I HATE cats! You probably can't tell from the picture above (Me and Elle - we lived together back in 2004 for about 2 months before I kicked her out and found her a new home) but I despise the existance of these useless creatures. I don't enjoy them when they are actual living animals, but I hate it even more when they are used for stationary, commercials, decorations, baby-talk, stuffed animals, etc.

Recently I was exposed to a new cat-ism that takes the cake in all things annoying. I would now like to introduce you to Kitty Pidgin. Yes, you read correctly, Kitty Pidgin - the official language of cats. Oh, but wait, it gets worse! The makers of Kitty Pidgin have now translated the Bible! Check it out...

Here is the NIV translation of the shortest verse in the Bible, John 11:35:
Jesus wept.

And here is the Kitty Pidgin translation:
Cheesus crieded. Not jus litle teers, no. he crieded big teers. Cuz Lolrus was ded an stufs an everywun luved him, even Cheesus. Cheesus trieded to wipe his teers awai wit his pawz but teh teers kept comin and comin and everywun saweded that as dey were cryin too. Everywun was cryin an sad. Yesh. Srsly. Yu mite criez too! It's okai, cryin is okay. Everywun can criez. Cheesus wepted.

I stinkin' hate cats!

You Know This - Dr. Swamy

This is my friend Swamy:

I've known Swamy (aka - Michael Thumbuswamy) for 9 years now. Even though I met Swamy after he got his BA from Baylor, he has been a student for as long as I've known him. He went back to Baylor to get his masters in business and then continued on to med school in Oklahoma. Well, recently things have changed. All those years of school have paid off and he is now officially a doctor! He has been matched (whatever that means) at the University of Florida!

Congratulations Dr. Swamy! I'm very VERY proud of you!!!

You Know This - Wildside YouTube

In Wildside, we are currently in the middle of the series I Heart Technology. Last week we created a video called "If Wildside ran YouTube." This video is the reason I spent my days making puppets. I hope you enjoy it!

You Know This - Good Luck Chuck (aka Bethany)

As I have posted before, I have an amazing knack for marrying off my roommates. Well, nothing has changed. I moved in on December 31st - and guess what - Kiva and Tom got engaged that night!

Congrats Kiva! So excited to be a part of your life during this journey! And thanks for keeping my Roommate Yenta theory running strong!

*** I really wanted to call this post, "Good Luck Chuck Bethany", but the title line wouldn't let me use the strike-through feature...boo ***

You Know This - Fear Factor

When I was 7 years old I had a face-off with a rotary cutter and I lost. That night I had mouthed off to the parents and was sent to bed early. On my way upstairs, I found this device sitting next to a bracelet box. I decided to try and cut the box, but instead I ended up cutting my thumb down to the bone. 20 years later, I still have this wicked scar:

Since then, I have been incredibly afraid of sharp objects (knives, box cutters, razor blades, etc. ) This week, I got down to the root of my fear and finally conquered it! Take that rotary cutter!

You Know This - I heart the 909

This post is for those of you who don't think anything good can come from the 909...besides me, of course.

Here are some pictures I took while at my parent's house last weekend. I probably enjoy them more than most since I have a major obsession with clouds, but they are beautiful none the less. Enjoy!

You Know This - 괴담

I am currently having one of my favorite moments of the weekend. I'm sitting in Liz's living room in my ultra-comfy grandpa-style sweat pants, eating way too much Taco Bell, and watching Lost Season 3. During this favorite moment, I just saw my favorite Lost moment thus far. (Surprisingly, it doesn't include either Sawyer or Jack). Here it is...

Jin telling a ghost story is freaking hilarious!

PS: 괴담 is Korean for Ghost Story.

You Know This - Mysterious Ticking Noise

There is a mysterious ticking noise in my car. It's been happening since about day 2 of owning the car, but they just can't seem to figure out the source. When I brought it in the first time, the man asked me, "Did you leave your turn signal on?" Yes, because I am that dumb. It's now been 3 years since I bought the car and they still can't figure it out. I've taught myself to ignore it, but this video made me think of it again...

At this point I wish it was a pipe bomb just to end the mystery.

You Know This - Conversations With Zee German

This is my German friend, Dominik. Here is a conversation we had the other night...

Dom: You can't tell anyone this, ok?
Me: Can I write it down in my diary?
Dom: small chuckle Sometimes when you say the word diary do you think you're going to say the word diarrhea?
Me: No, not at all. Why, do you?
Dom: chuckles again Yes, every time.

Oh Dom, I heart you!

You Know This - Lost-a-like

So, recently I've been catching on the TV show LOST. While watching it last night, I realized that Charlie looks an aweful lot like my 5-year-old nephew. Now, I know they already have an actor to play Charlie as a kid in his flashbacks, but if Dominic Monaghan ever needs a child look-a-like again, he really should consider Cameron...

You Know This - Get It

Working in youth ministry, you get a lot of moments... funny moments, embarrassing moments, loud moments, sad moments, great moments, etc. But one of my favorite moments is when you find out that a student “gets it”. We got an email from one of our students this week, and I just want to share her moment of getting it.

Quick set up :: in our last student leadership meeting (called Strive) we had the students learn about and experience a few spiritual disciplines. At one point we had them listen to a worship song and just take in what the words meant. Ok, here is what the email said...
